Wood Ducks |
| Nests in wooded marshes [aka Carolina Duck] The drake Wood Duck is the most beautiful of North American waterfowl, and is the most common duck of the Eastern United States. The mating happens during the fall/winter time, but the pairing happens well before breeding season. The courship of the female is a repeated flick of her bill over her shoulder. The male responds by raisin his wings and tail, swimming away. If she is impressed, she will follow him, and the choice of a a mate is completely up to the female. |
