• transfer to Database layout is now complete with 1796 files in
database. The Database is only used for creating HTML files before transferring
them to the website, there is no database lookup on website itself.
• Keywords added to database - cross referencing by Groups, Location
• All work related to database took over 50 hours, but this also
included in addition to database entries / updates, (1) stardardizing
filenames to use year-month prefix, eg. 2005-05, for easier finding/updates,
and (2) improving pictures which initially did not get enough attention,
and (3) a few new pictures were added.
• It was a necessary step for managing future growth... but it was
done Primarily to manage descriptions, and matching the description for
thumbnail pictures (many per page) to the big pictures (one per page).
I wouldn't do it if it wasn't for a good cause.
• Database lookup setup in 20hours of work, +20hours of code adjustements
and setting groups: Animals/Cats/People/Greece and another 20hours anticipated
(includes moving and adjusting image colors/dust)
• reading Microsoft Access Database from
Visual C++ -- C++ code parses HTML files with <a href><img>
tags and only takes the thumbnail name and looks up the rest, the Directory/Group
names and Description for ALT, and another C++ code does the same for
large pictures (one per page).
• With 1596 photos currently present in database ( Website
Pictures Count currently shows 1964 ... real number will be about
1800 at the end) , this allows one place to be modified and easily propagated
for whole website (multiple uses of the same picture are common). It allows
consistency and the change is done in one place only.
