2002/12/05:
I was motivated to make Arizona webpage.
And then it made sense to add Colorado, California and Utah too.
The four beautiful states of southwest. Each unique, each special.
is taken from a license
plate. - the background
is ocean at sunset. -
the background is the Utah sky. |

Elsewhere, thumbnail pictures will be changed to look better, and big pictures
made smaller but with better colors (a different compromise between looks
and size).
Some things look so different in Netscape.. crappy....
This website looks better in Internet Explorer.
The following was added. Main webpage layout changed. All groups now present
in the middle column on main page.
I now have a real screen and can adjust colors. Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think Art Wolfe's pictures are awesome.
It's a shame and great loss about Galen
(Aug 11, 2002).
He's awesome too. Explore-All.com
started. More attention willl be paid to colors.
But I still need to get
Polaroid SprintScan 4000 Plus .
Someday. |

2002/09/19:
In the past month, Photos-2002, 2001, etc.. were added -- thanks
to the new scanner. "BODY Familia" pages were added -- family access
only. These are pictures from our 2-week get-together in Slovakia mountains.
Until now, 95% of the pictures were from slides scanned 2 years ago.
|
|
- some cool license plates.
- nice places to see.
-
2002/08/18:
The scanning days have begone.
Epson Perfection 2400 (under Scanners) eventually became the scanner
to use. At 3.2 Dmax for $230, it's a very usable flatbed scanner and the
least-expensive Epson scanner with a Dmax rating. (I didn't like
Epson 1250 and 1650 (under Scanners).)
My dream scanner is
Polaroid SprintScan 4000 Plus. It is a 4000DPI slide/negative scanner
with Dmax=4.2 -- (
$1200 at BHPhotoVideo & $1200
at PCMall )
-
2001/12/04:
Photo of the week
(or month,year..) history added. Keeping track of previous Photos,
along with description..... These are not the most recent pictures, just
ones from the past that i think are cool, memorable.
Added frames for pictures. They look better this way.
2 weeks ago i played
with friend's digital camcorder with photo option. It's not the same as
digital camera, quality suffers...... of course real cameras (like Nikon
F100) rock.... however, sometimes a digital camera is the better option
-- if you need fast results. I took photos of friend's 1993 BMW 325is which
was for sale. Buyer was coming from Canada, and pictures helped things out
a bit.
Compared to my real photos (with Nikon F100), these digital pictures SUCKED.
They were lifeless, cactus especially looked dead..... the colors were subdued.
Sure they looked good in the camera's little display.... but not in the
computer. I took pictures with my real camera at the same time too... much
more versatile.....
My Digital Photos
has my digital photos..... some things i own, some i sold.....
Also, i worked on my HTML generating engine.... finally it's in nice shape.
C++ code generates HTML based on JPG/GIF files in a directory.
-
2001/10/19:
White background replaced by light cyan. Photos-2000 layout changed, descriptions
added for thumbnail pictures (what a good idea).
Someday more pictures will be added from my existing slides/negatives. Including
1)Cats, 2) California, 3)snow camping, 4)San-Francisco 2001, 5) more cities,
6) more animals.
Super-Cool
Photgraphers page added. It has super-cool pictures from the pros. Pictures
like this ------>
There are links to their pictures, and/or websites.
-
10/06/2001:
New look! ...frames are gone. The old layout was this
(see Sept 2001). Main page is more user friendly. Common header to all pages.
Changed thumbnail pictures size to 200 pixels (from 150).
Revised story: 2001-09-23_Praying Mantis (Superstitions)
- changed text, added 3 pictures
Added story: 2001-07-28_That Peak over there(CO) -
first draft; NEEDS PICTURES
Links page changed - added cool links to other
photographers; allso cat stories like -->
-
09/22/2001:
Internet Explorer vs Netscape: it never looks the same in both. Ever spend
an hour and end up deciding that the original was better? Netscape sometimes
insists on not displaying the image until it's all loaded. IE displays the
image as it's loading it.
I use IE, so things should look better in IE. And at 1024x768 resolution.
Colors: I use a Laptop. Laptop screen is a not a good choice for optimal
colors - moving the screen slightly affects colors and darkness. That's
why some photos might look awesome and others not so hot.
How come "parent.FrameName.location" works normally on local data,
but with a different site it cannot be read - "permission denied"?
(NoFrames will not work)
The current solution is
....1) "Frames/NoFrames" buttons
- they need reloading of data. DOES NOT work if you link to another site
....2) "Sidebar/NoSidebar" buttons
- no reloading needed, but the website HTML name does not update.

09/21/2001:
2 days ago www.robertbody.com was
up for the first time. :)
Dealing with OMNIS was very pleasant (but don't call the Sales line, call
the (310) Tech Support number, they can do anything the Sales people can.
As they said, it took almost 4hours for website to activate (they do "virtual
domain hosting"). Transferring the domain name from DomainSite took
about 24h (needed because of the "virtual domain hosting").
A link from http://24.15.58.22:5001,
the old website location, was done.
"front page" was cut out, and the "Website layout" page
became the first page. My drawings with only a few colors were saved as
GIFs, not JPGs [takes less space, looks better], but photos of course must
be JPGs (more than 256 colors).
"robertbody.com" logo was done. pretty cool. :) ...... still needs
a couple of stars on either side, and something running along the left side
of screen (mini pictures...).
All picture categories are now up: 1)Colorado 2)Arizona 3)Utah 4)Canada
5)Sunsets 6)Animals 7)Cities.
"All on 1 page" takes forever on 28.8 modem. choices:
.. 1) smaller pictures - but then you lose the feeling......
.. 2) lower quality JPG - "lower quality". Currently pictures
are 768x512 pixels and they are 60K average in size
Future additions: pictures and text (finally start writing about the expeditions
of the past) for
.. 1) Phoenix - Toronto snow-camping trip,
.. 2) Phoenix - SanDiego - SanFrancisco - Leadville Body/Body/Body expedition
-
09/09/2001:
Over the period of the past week, improved the pictures for 1)Colorado 2)Arizona
3)Utah 4)Animals, 5) Sunsets. (20 sunset pictures alone took 4 hours straight.)
What a difference filtering makes !!! I adjusted colors to original [or
better] and used Unsharp mask. The scanning process introduces haze and
sucks the life out of the picture. Adjusting the colors and contrast (sometimes
brightness) puts it back. Sometimes cropping, slight or for panoramic effect
makes a big diff.
Pictures are accessed through a Thumbnails view. Clicking "All on 1 page"
eg on Colorado page button shows all Colorado pictures on 1 page. "All on
1 page" pages have text too. To put text into Thumbnail enlargements needs
a database in place [and server pages approach] - not something i can do
now.
All of these pictures i had for a year!!!! Finding time and getting used
to filtering delayed things.
I am very ready to move the website to www.robertbody.com.
$7/month for 30mb space, $35 setup fee, 99% uptime - www.omnis.com
. Within the next 30 days......
Note that domain name registration is extra, currently running for $13/year.
Also I want to improve the "80s look" of pages like this one. Space is not
used too efficiently -- looks too bulky.
-
06/30/2001:
Total website redesign - added frames, "My Stuff" page, "Me", "My Art",
"Interview with God", "Funny Pictures". "My Stuff" page gives choices for
pictures, and other real stuff. Right hand sidebar frame stays on always.
"NO_FRAMES" option from main screen.
-
11/11/2000:
7 groups of pictures put up so far -- Colorado: 23, Arizona: 11, Utah:
6, Canada: 9, Sunsets: 25, Cities: 25, Animals: 1.
No color compensation has yet been done. That's why some (many) picture
look dull. Contrast/Brighteness increased on lionness.
Future steps:
(1) setup Apache server, JSP, database organizing
(2) photos: remove haze, Unsharp, crop, photo-composites
(3) bigger photo resolutions (selectable by user, kept via cookies), info
for photos
-
11/08/2000 - 11/10/2000:
First Photo-CD processed in Photoshop. Manually cropped to 744x496
window from 768x512 PCD image, but otherwise automated the process. Saved
60% JPEG file as big pictures, and 19% JPEG files as thumbnails. Monitor
set to max contrast and brightness set for medium gray.
Selected images for 3 categories from CD-1: 1 for AZ, 5 for Utah, and 17
for Colo, all JPEGs, 2K for thumnails, 30K for blow-ups.
Added a picture-composite for home page. Want to do more composites. They're
cool!
No color corrections done yet. Some photographs need it a lot. Primary film
used is Fuji Velvia. Dull-looking photographs are from Fuji Astia/Provia-F
(those need most work).
-
10/23/2000:
First 2 pictures online (Lance.jpg and Cactus.jpg). Bruce scanned them
on his flatbed scanner. Looks better than I expected.
"Real" Apache Server will have to wait (no DSL available). Current plan:
"offline" Apache, "offline" JSP looks through pictures directory and adds
new records to database. Manual descriptions done in database. Another "offline"
JSP builds HTML from database info. Database cross-references, keywords,
etc: delayed for now.
-
10/19/2000:
Had a JAVA dream: build my own JSP server, access database using JDBC
on server side, put JavaScript into HTML on client side. When working, put
www.robertbody.com on resume. Bought
Java books for $230.
Fedex-sent 254 slides to ADI for developing. Wanted to insure for $1 million.
Settled for $1000.
-
10/16/2000:
After using a $180 slide scanner for 2 hours, playing with the gamma value
and getting back low contrast, "as if looking through a dirty window" quality,
I retired from scanning. (A Nikon LS-2000 or Polaroid SprintScan 35 Plus,
both around $1500, with their near 3.4 density ranges make it a lot more
*fun* to scan.) Nevertheless, my images will be scanned by a professional
place (ADI Colorado).
The good people at www.domainsite.com
are still working on "URL forwarding", so that this site is linked from
24.15.58.22/robertbody to www.robertbody.com
domain name.
-
10/5/2000:
First attempts at web page. Requested www.robertbody.com
domain name. $10/year, only at www.domainsite.com.
Special thanks to Bruce from www.desertloft.com
for providing an Internet home to my photo world on his full-time 24/7 server.
